Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin has written to French trade unions proposing talks on his contested youth jobs plan, union officials said. Protests in French over the contested youth employment law spread from universities to hundreds of secondary schools today, with no signs of a let-up in the struggle between government and an alliance of students and trade unions.
