(FILES) US President Ronald Reagan wiped his eye during an emotion sendoff ceremony at the Pentagon 17 November 1987 in Washington, D.C. for Caspar Weinberger (L) who is retiring after seven years in the post. Caspar Weinberger, a former US defense secretary under president Ronald Reagan, has died of pneumonia at the age of 88, reported CNN 28 March 2006. Weinberger served as defense secretary from 1982 to 1987, overseeing the US administration-s so-called "Star Wars" military program. Despite his reputation for cost-cutting, which earned him the nickname "Cap the Knife," Weinberger championed Reagan-s plan to boost the Defense Department-s budget and modernize the US armed forces.
