FILES-SUDAN-WOMEN-RIGHTS-HEALTH
TO GO WITH STORY BY ALI KHALIL
(FILES) Two Sudanese women tend their wares as they prepare at the end of the fifth day of Ramadan to sell food for iftar, the meal that breaks the fast, after attending the Jamaa Al-Kabir (the Big Mosque) in Khartoum 19 October 2004. Young girls in the poverty-stricken African country -- ruled by an Islamist regime since a 1989 coup -- are still subjected to the ancient tradition branded by human rights organizations as "female genital mutilation or cutting" (FGM/C).
