FRANCE-CULTURE-ART-AUCTION
(FILES) This undated handout photo released by the Hotel Drouot auction house in Paris shows a Ngil mask of the Fang culture of Gabon which was sold at auction 17 June 2006 for the record sum of 5.9 million euros (including charges), the highest price ever paid in the world for a work of primitive art. The mask came from the celebrated Verite collection of more than 500 works of Oceanic and African art, including several major pieces, which was put up for sale from 17-18 June at Druout-Rive Gauche. Considered the last great historic collection in France, the Verite collection contains 514 lots, including 434 from Africa, together estimated at 12 to 18 million euros.
