FBL-ITA-SCANDAL-TRIAL
Italian referee Massimo De Santis (R) leaves with his unidentified lawyer Rome-s Olympic stadium where a soccer league trial is to take place 04 July 2006 over the Italian match-fixing scandal. The Italian football federation prosecutor Stefano Palazzi requested Juventus be dropped to below the second division and that the last two Italian leagues titles won by Juventus are stripped from the club. There were also requests that AC Milan, Lazio and Fiorentina are relegated to the second division, and Luciano Moggi together with Antonio Giraudo, Juventus- top officials during the 2004/05 season, are threatened with being excluded from all sporting activities for five years. Palazzo described the system which helped top clubs influence which referee they had for their matches as "sophisticated" and "intelligent." AFP PHOTO / Andreas SOLARO
