Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (L) touches a model representing a Brazilian female beach volley player as he visits Lausanne-s Olympic museum with International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Belgium-s Jacques Rogge-s (L) 30 January 2004. Lula met Rooge to press Rio de Janeiro-s bid for the 2012 Olympic Games. "It-s officially a courtesy visit, but implicitly it-s to defend Rio-s candidacy," a member of the Brazilian delegation explained. Rogge gave Lula a guided tour of the Olympic Musuem in Lausanne, notably showing him an exhibit devoted to Cuban high jumper Javier Sotomayor-s 2.45 metre high jump record set in 1993.
