ZIMBABWE-DOCTORS-STRIKE
An elderly Zimbabwean patient at Pareranyatwa hospital awaits the arrival of a doctor 18 July 2006 in Harare. The patient has to pay 70 million Zimbabwe dollars (US691) to have his leg plastered. A wage dispute crisis in Zimbabwe's public hospitals is growing after 250 intern doctors downed stethoscopes, forcing the closure of casualty wards as patients pay the brunt for the labour stalemate. Junior doctors are demanding a salary hike of more than 700 percent to counter the iron grip of spiralling inflation of just under 1,200 percent. AFP PHOTO / DESMOND KWANDE
