US-MIGRATION-CUBA
Morelia Croes (C) is hugged by her sister Rebeca Croes (L) and Rebeca's daughter America Lau (R) 20 July 2006 at the Federal Courthouse in Miami, Florida. Morelia was among 28 Cuban migrants who had been detained offshore since 08 July after the speedboat they were being smuggled in was disabled by gunfire from US Coast Guard agents. A woman died in the incident, but the Coast Guard says the death was unrelated to the gunfire. In a turnabout, the migrants were brought ashore so they they can be material witnesses against the three men allegedly involved in the smuggling. Under US policy, most Cubans who reach US soil are allowed to remain, while those who are caught at sea are returned home. Joe Raedle/Getty Images/AFP == FOR NEWSPAPER & TV USE ONLY ==
