MIDEAST-CONFLICT-UN-LEBANON
An Indian soldier, part of the multinational UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) walks in a UN compound in south Lebanon, 16 August 2006. A seven-fold buildup of UN troops in southern Lebanon critical to the success of a fledgling ceasefire could begin within 10 days, the head of the UN's peacekeeping forces said yesterday. UN Security Council Resolution 1701, unanimously adopted Friday, mandates that UNIFIL will swell from its current level of 1,990 troops to 15,000.
