FILE-BOLIVIA-REPSOL-MORALES
(FILE) Picture of the Spanish Repsol YPF gas and oil refinery Rio Grande in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, taken 04 May 2006. Bolivian President Evo Morales called Spain's deputy prime minister at the weekend to stress that he wants the Spanish energy giant Repsol to stay in the Andean country, officials said 28 August 2006. Morales expressed "his desire that the Spanish firm remain in the country" where the company has invested about a billion dollars over the past decade, a spokeswoman for First Deputy Prime Minister Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega told AFP. The comment came after Repsol had charged Sunday that "it is difficult to maintain a necessary dialogue with Bolivian institutions" owing to a "lack of existing judicial security" in the impoverished nation. Repsol reacted with concern after Bolivian investigators raided its Andina subsidiary in the southeastern Bolivian city of Santa Cruz amid allegations a former Andina manager and two directors of Petrobras-Bolivia committed fraud through fixing gas export prices below international market prices.
