BRITAIN-TRANSPORT-TRAIN-STRIKE
The number 10 train platform stands empty during rush hour at Britain's busiest train station, Clapham Junction, in south London, 29 August 2006, due to a 24-hour strike by around 900 South West Trains employees in a bitter row sparked when managers were drafted in to drive trains during previous industrial action. The train company advised passengers Tuesday not to travel unless absolutely necessary, as the strike threatened to cripple services to and from London. Trade Union Aslef warned it will go ahead with two further strikes on September 8 and 11 unless the deadlocked dispute was broken. AFP PHOTO / JOHN D MCHUGH
