ESTONIA-VOTE-PARLIAMENT-ILVES
Presidential canditate Toomas Hendrik Ilves gestures while posing with the 64 members of the Parliament who gave him their votes, 29 August 2006 in Tallinn, Estonia. Estonian lawmakers failed in their second attempt 29 August to choose a new president, with former foreign minister Toomas Hendrik Ilves falling four votes short of being elected, officials said. Ilves, 52, currently a Social-Democratic member of the European Parliament, secured 64 votes in the 101-member legislature. He needed 68 votes to take up the office of the largely figurehead presidency.
