A detail from one of the fireplaces in the main lobby at the Hoxton Hotel in London, is pictured 31 August 2006. The Hoxton Hotel in central London opened last Friday, offering a number of rooms at just one pound (1.49 euros, 1.90 dollars) per night including a light breakfast -- a deal that the 48-year-old entrepreneur Sinclair Beecham promises to repeat. "We are just trying to solve some of the problems that hotels tend to not do very well or rip you off on," said Beecham, best known for co-founding the Pret A Manger sandwich chain. In addition to cheap room rates, Beecham is looking to entice customers by providing low-cost phone calls to destinations abroad, snacks and drinks at retail prices and free internet access throughout the hotel.
