The chief executive and former owner of Swiss biotechnology company Serono, Ernesto Bertarelli, said Thursday that he was ready to stay on as long as necessary to ensure the company's smooth transition into Merck KGaA's hands. Merck announced on Thursday it had taken a majority stake in Switzerland's Serono SA and was aiming at a full takeover worth 16.6 billion Swiss francs (10.46 billion euros).
