BULGARIA-ROMANIA-EU-ENLARGMENT-FEATURE
(FILES) Picture taken 08 August 2006 shows villagers in front of a local jumble store talking as they sell home-grown tomatoes in the village of Varvara, some 500 km South-East of the capital Sofia. The European Commission gave the go-ahead 26 October 2006 for Bulgaria and Romania to joint the European Union, imposing on them strict monitoring to ensure the two poorest newcomers will pursue much needed reforms in their Judiciaries and continue the fight against crime and corruption. Europe also vowed to keep a sharp eye on food safety and the absorption of EU funding to prevent misappropriation. AFP PHOTO / VALENTINA PETROVA
