SWEDEN-NOBEL-PRIZE-MEDICINE
Prof. Göran Hansson, chairman of the Nobel Committee, announces the recipients of this year's Nobel Prize in medicine at a press conference in Stockholm, 02 October 2006. US scientists Andrew Z. Fire and Craig C. Mello won the prize for discovering a method of turning off selected genes, an important research tool that scientists hope will lead to new treatments for a range of illnesses.
