HUNGARY-POLITICS-VOTE-DEMO
Hungarian protesters light candles in Budapest 06 October 2006 to the memorial place of the first Hungarian Prime Minister Lajos Batthyany who was killed by the Austro-hungarian empire 06 October 1849, after the 1848's revolution and freedom fight. Hungarian demonstrators gathering at the Kossuth square of the parliament building 06 October 2006 during an anti-government demonstration organized by the opposition party Hungarian Civic Party-FIDESZ. Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany won today a parliamentary vote of confidence, which he had called to gauge his mandate for continuing unpopular austerity measures after his party was drubbed in local elections at the weekend. It comes a month after a political scandal erupted, after a tape was leaked to the media in which Gyurcsany acknowledged he had promised tax cuts despite knowing about the dire state of the economy and the need for belt-tightening measures.
