QATAR-ISLAM-PEOPLE-CHARITY
Former Egyptian singer Iman al-Bahar Darwish speaks during a charity ceremony held in the Qatari capital Doha late 11 October 2006, to collect donations for an Islamic media project aimed at defending and presenting a positive image of Islam and Prophet Mohammed against what is seen as a "campaign against the reglion and its symbols". The event was held by a Qatari cultural Islamic association headed by Doha-based prominent Egyptian cleric Sheikh Yussef al-Qardawi. Among the projects to be launched by the group are a satellite TV channel and several internet sites, as well as publishing and distributing books, CDs and DVDs on Islam in various languages.
