FILES-FBL-IRAN-SUSPENSION
(FILES) -- File picture dated 03 June 2006 shows Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (C), the former president of Iran's football federation, Mohammad Dadkan (3rd in 2nd row/top), and the latter's deputy, Mohammad Ali-Abadi (2nd in 2nd row/top), posing in Tehran with Iranian national soccer team players prior to their departure to Germany to participate in World Cup 2006 finals. Iran's football federation (IRIFF) said the world ruling body FIFA had suspended Iran on false information and defended its "independence", the state news agency IRNA reported 25 November 2006. The Iran football federation has been suspended by the sport's world governing body for governmental interference and non-adherence to their statues, FIFA had announced two days ago. In August, following the national team's World Cup failure in Germany, Dadkan was sacked. Both FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation set November 15 for Iran to reinstate Dadkan and to comply with the FIFA statutes, but the Islamic republic refused to meet the deadline. AFP PHOTO/STR
