Armed and veiled Somali women point their rifles during a rally in Mogadishu, 28 November 2006. Thousands of Somalis gathered at Mogadishu’s Tribunka square as a senior Islamic courts leader threatened to invite Islamist fighters around the world into Somalia if the UN authorizes a proposed peace keeping mission. The threat comes as the US, at the head of a campaign linking Islamists to Al-Qaeda, prepares to introduce a UN Security Council resolution and ease a 1992 arms emboargo against Somalia to facilitate the mission.
