US-SPACE-SHUTTLE-LAUNCH
The Space Shuttle Discovery lifts off from Launch pad 39b at Kennedy Space Center 09 December 2006 in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Discovery launched on NASA’s second attempt and is embarking on a twelve day mission and its the first night launch since the Columbia accident. NASA required the previous three missions to be in daylight so images could be taken of the shuttle's external fuel tank.
