Fire (L), of the Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, CA, USA receives the The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2006 from King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden in Stockholm, 10 December 2006. Zire chares the prize with Craig C. Mello of the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester, MA, USA "for their discovery of RNA interference - gene silencing by double-stranded RNA".
