Dutch immigration minister Rita Verdonk during a debate in the parliament in The Hague, 12 December 2006, about a suspention of the expulsion of unsuccesful asylumseekers. After a long debate that went on past midnight parliament adopted a motion of censure against hardline Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk. Verdonk continued to refuse after repeated parliamentary motions to temporarily freeze deportations of some 26,000 failed asylum seekers in anticipation of an amnesty bill supported by a narrow majority in parliament.
