SERBIA-NATO
Commander of Allied Joint Force Command Naples Admiral Henry G. Ulrich III (R) of the US and French general Yannick Asset (L) attend a press conference in Belgrade, 18 December 2006. Seven years after the Alliance bombings campaign on Serbia due to the country's brutal crackdown against Kosovo Albanians, NATO opened a liaison office in Belgrade on Monday. The opening of the office came after Serbia in November became a member of the Alliance's Partnership of Peace programme and it would serve as a "link in carrying out the agreement of NATO forces transit through Serbia, as well as other issues related to reforms in the field of defence," Beta news agency reported. French general Yannick Asset will head the office, based in Serbia's defence ministry building, one of NATO former targets during the 1999 campaign. AFP PHOTO / ANDREJ ISAKOVIC
