HONG KONG-HEALTH-SMOKING
"No Smoking" leaflets, are seen having been distributed by the Department of Health at a local restaurant in Hong Kong, 01 January 2007. After partying into the New Year, Hong Kong has welcomed sweeping the new laws on banning smoking in inddor public places such as bar, restaurant, shopping mall, karaoke lounges which effective from today 01 January 2007. They risk prosecution if the ban is flouted, while smokers face on-the-spot fines of 5,000 Hong Kong dollars (640 US dollars) if they are caught lighting up in bars, restaurants and karaoke lounges. And in an effort to enforce the ban, the Hong Kong health department's Tobacco Control Office has sent teams of inspectors into the community. AFP PHOTO/Samantha SIN
