ETHIOPIA-JUSTICE-MENGISTU
Unidentified relatives of the defendants in the court case against Ethiopia's former dictator Mengistu Haile Mariam and member of his regime try to reach out for their family members 11 January 2007 in a court in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Mengistu is blamed for the deaths of tens of thousands during his Marxist rule that sought to transform the country into a Soviet-style workers' state. Mengistu oversaw the "Red Terror" in 1977-78 when politicians, intellectuals and other perceived foes were tortured, murdered and disappeared. He has been sentenced to life inprisonment.
