CHINA-ENVIRONMENT-RIVER
Residents hang the traditional seasoned meat and fish to dry, along the banks of the mighty Yangtze river, as water level drop to a new low in Wuhu, central China's Anhui province 13 January 2007. With more than 500 pumping stations located on the Yangtze's banks to draw drinking water, millions of residents face shortages of clean drinking water, along the Yangtze, which stretches 6,300 kilometers (3,906 miles) from the northwestern province of Qinghai and traverses through 186 cities, including Shanghai, before emptying into the East China Sea.
