Picture taken 26 November 2006 shows Father Augustin Diamacoune Senghor resting in a bed at the Val-de-Grace Hospital in Paris. Father Diamacoune-Senghor, the Secretary-general of MFDC, the independence movement in the Casamance region in southern Senegal, died today, aged 78, at the Val-de-Grace military hospital in Paris, 14 January 2007. On 30 December 2004 Father Diamacoune-Senghor signed a peace accord with Senegal's Interior Minister Ousmane Ngom, the MFDC separatists agreed "definitely to renounce armed struggle."
