BURKINA-WAFRICA-SUMMIT-ICOAST-GBAGBO-KONAN BANNY
Ghanaian President John Kuofur (L) and his Togolese counterpart Faure Gnassingbe leave 19 January 2007 following the opening session of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) summit in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Eleven west African presidents, including Ivory Coast's Laurent Gbagbo, met 19 January in Burkina Faso to discuss measures to make progress in reuniting Ivory Coast and holding elections. "The crisis that started in 2002 in Ivory Coast unfortunately continues to affect this brother nation and to concern ECOWAS," the chairman of the Economic Community of West African States, Niger's President Mamadou Tandja, said to open the summit.
