FILES-BRITAIN-DAIMLERCHRYSLER-SCHREMPP
FILES - Picture taken 07 May 1998 shows German Daimler-Benz chairman Juergen Schrempp (left) and Chrysler chairman Robert Eaton giving a press conference where they announced that the Daimler-Benz and US automobile giant Chrysler would merge and be worth 166 billion German marks (92 billion dollars) to spawn one of the world's top three automakers. Schrempp successor, German-US auto giant DaimlerChrysler chairman Dieter Zetsche, announced 14 February 2007 during a press conference in Auburn Hills, Michigan, that DaimlerChrysler would axe 13,000 jobs at US unit Chrysler as part of a restructuring aimed at restoring its profitablity by 2008 and that the automaker was examining "other options" and did not rule out the sale of Chrysler.
