SENEGAL-VOTE
An armed police officer stands 25 February 2007 in front of a pollling station in Dakar. Senegalese are voting 25 February 2007 for a new president, among them the incumbent 80-year old leader Abdulaye Wade seeking a new five year tenure to run this west African country, praised as one of the few democracies on the continent. Early turnout was strong as voting opened around 8:00 am (0800 GMT) at the more than 11,000 polling stations scattered across this predominantly Muslim country. Voting proceeded peacefully across the country.
