BELGIUM-EU-SUMMIT
Germany's Federal chancellor Angela Merkel (L), whose country currently holds the European Union presidency, receives Hungary's Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany ahead of an EU summit on climate change at the EU headquarters in Brussels 08 March 2007. Former communist newcomers to the European Union have openly embraced nuclear energy and are actively developing the sector, ignoring potential dangers which have caused many old member states to shun the atom as an energy source. European Union leaders gathered in Brussels today seeking a landmark accord to fight climate change amid divisions over the best way to choke off greenhouse gases.
