SWEDEN-SOCIAL DEMOCRATS
Mona Sahlin, newly elected party leader for the Swedish Social Democrats, smiles as she is presented a bunch of red roses, the party symbol, at the party congress in Stockholm, 17 March, 2006. The seventh leader in the party's 118-year history, Sahlin will be the first woman to head the party as she replaces former Prime Minister Goran Persson, who announced the end of his 10-year reign as party boss after losing the September 2006 vote to a center-right coalition.
