INDIA-KENYA-AWARD-NEHRU
Kenyan Nobel Laureate, Wangari Muta Maathai, (R) the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 and known for her zealous espousal of human rights receives the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding, administered by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, (ICCR), from Indian President A P J Abdul Kalam at a function at the Presidential Palace in New Delhi, 22 March 2007. Professor Maathai, who is the first African woman to receive this award, joins the select group of Jawaharlal Nehru Awardees including Martin Luther King (Jr.), Mother Teresa, Indira Gandhi and Nelson Mandela.
