BRITAIN-NIRELAND-POLITICS
The statue of Sir Edward Carson, a leader of the Irish Unionists, is seen though a broken link at the Stormont Assembly building in Belfast, Northern Ireland, 26 March 2007. An accord between Northern Ireland's main party leaders to restore self-rule should lead to a "genuinely new era" for the province, Britain's Northern Ireland Secretary Peter Hain said on the issue, agreeing to the deal. Hain said the accord, struck between Democratic Unionists (DUP) leader Ian Paisley and Sinn Fein chief Gerry Adams, was even better than he could have expected. AFP PHOTO/PETER MUHLY
