FRANCE-CHINA-SCULPTURE-YONG-PING
Chinese artist Huang Yong Ping poses in front of his piece "One man, nine animals", 12 April 2007 inside the Ducal castle of Caen. Huang Yong Ping has used animals—actual ones or representations—consistently in his work. Each of the animals is imbued with culturally and historically specific references, and the whole expansive iconography intersects with the complex symbological universe of Taoism as well as various historical realities to which the artist has turned his attention. Altogether, the animals in his work constitute a bestiary as complex as its European medieval counterpart. AFP PHOTO MYCHELE DANIAU
