US-NAVY-MARINE MAMMAL TRAINING
US Navy Petty Officer Shawn McDonald (C), feeds his dolphin "Ten" before he prepares to transport it to a boat during a training exercise at Naval Base Pt. Loma on 12 April 2007 in San Diego, California. The Navy's Marine Mammal Program trains primarily dolphins and sea lions in operational programs for swimmer defense and to detect underwater mines and other possible ordinance. The mammals have been used in operations in the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Sandy Huffaker/Getty Images/AFP =FOR NEWSPAPER, INTERNET, TELCOS AND TELEVISION USE ONLY=
