URUGUAY-HUMAN RIGHTS-MILITARY
A retiered militaryman holds a picture of US Anthony Dan Mitrione -killed by the guerrilla in the seventies- during a homage for victims of the guerrilla, at the Flag Square in Montevideo, 14 April, 2007. Mitrione was an official of the United States Agency for International Development who was kidnapped and later killed by the MLN-Tupamaro leftist guerrilla in 1970. The parliament is studying a bill to compensate the relatives of militarymen, policemen or civilians killed during the fight against the guerrilla, and also the relatives of those confirmed by the Peace Commission as missing from the country's military regime (1973-1985).
