URUGUAY-HARRIS HAWK
Tanus (L) a Harris Hawk (parabuteo unicintus) perches on the arm of his trainer, 13th April, 2007 at the Carrasco International Airport in Montevideo. Harris Hawks are being hired in the airport to scare lapwings (teros) and hulls so as to reduce bird danger for the planes. They also "work" in other places -a bus terminal and a bottling plant- to keep them free from pigeons, whose fecal matter corrode metals and transmit several diseases. AFP PHOTO/Miguel ROJO
