French outgoing President Jacques Chirac bids farewell at the Elysee presidential palace in Paris 15 May 2007 to the people of France during the tapping of his TV address to the nation the day before to hand over the presidency to his successor Nicolas Sarkozy. The 74-year-old conservative leader, who has been at the centre of French politics for nearly half a century, will vacate the presidential Elysee palace on Wednesday.
