NETHERLANDS-CLIMATE-FLOOD-DYKE

AFP STORY by Frederic Bichon ---- This picture taken in April 2004 shows a general view of the Afsluitdijk (closure dyke) near Den Oever. At 1302 on the 28 May 1932, the last shovelfuls of sand and clay were thrown onto the 30km long and 85 m wide man-made retaining wall, effectively separting the Netherlands from the North Sea. The Netherlands will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Dyke 28 May 2007, at a time where major structural adjustments will be started to compensate for climatic changes. AFP PHOTO / Dirk Visbach
