Twelve Russian scientists waited 05 March 2004 to be plucked off the Arctic ice floes that swallowed up most of their floating research station two days ago. The rescue operation to snatch the researchers off the ice was due to begin early 06 March, said Artur Chilingarov, a deputy parliament speaker and former polar explorer himself, who is heading the effort.
