RUSSIA-CAR
A man passes by the remains of a car in the village of Pershino, Ivanovo region, some 300 kilometers (190 miles) north-east of Moscow. 08 March 2004. In the Soviet times Ivanovo was chief producer of cotton fabrics, but its products were not particulary fine even then -- 80 percent went for the Soviet Army-s needs and export to the Socialist satellite states. Ivanovo region in one the poorest regions of Russia with a lot of unprofitable factories and farms, where milkmaids work from four in the morning till ten in the evening without weekends for a meager monthly wage of 70 US dollars.
