ETHIOPIA-SUDAN-DARFUR-AU-UN-PEACE
Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU), Mohieldin Salim, talks to the media at the AU Headquarters 22 June 2007 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. A UN Security Council team and African Union officials discussed this week the speedy deployment of a hybrid force in Darfur following Khartoum's long-awaited nod for the peacekeepers. Khartoum, which had previously rejected attempts to send large numbers of UN peacekeepers to Darfur, finally relented last week in the face of intense world pressure and threats of tougher UN sanctions.
