The Russian gas giant Gazprom said that its net profit last year had doubled compared with 2005 to 636.46 billion roubles (18.3 billion euros, 24.6 billion US dollars). Gazprom said that its acquisition in October 2005 of Sibneft, which became its oil arm Gazprom Neft, along with an increase in oil and gas prices had affected the comparison of figures from one year to the other.
