SUDAN-DARFUR-UN
Rodolphe Adada, the newly appointed African Union/United Nations Joint Special Representative to head the AU-UN hybrid operation in Darfur, answers questions from the media 06 July 2007, in the Sudanese capital Khartoum. The former Foreign Minister of the West African nation of Congo-Brazzaville, Adada said he was optimistic of the recently agreed hybrid operation between Sudan, the African Union and the United Nations. A 20,000-plus strong peacekeeping force comprised of mostly African soldiers is hoped to bring under control the war in Sudan's Western Darfur which has raged for more than 4 years, has estimated to have killed over 200,000 people and displaced a further 2 million more.
