FILES-GERMANY-US-FILM-HISTORY-WWII-BOESELAGER

FILES - A picture taken 13 July 2004 shows Philipp Freiherr von Boeselager, one of the last surviving members of the resistance involved in the assassination attempt on 20 July 1944 against Hitler, speaking to students at the university of the southern town of Wuerzburg. US actor Tom Cruise received backing on 10 July 2007 for his contested plans to play the mastermind behind a daring bid to assassinate Adolf Hitler from Boeselager, one of the real-life hero's fellow conspirators. Von Boeselager, 89, told German newspaper Bild that the uproar in Germany over the Hollywood star's affiliation with the Church of Scientology in no way disqualified him to play Count Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg.
