PHILIPPINES-ITALY-KIDNAP-UNREST-CLASH
Soldiers carry bodies of Philippine soldiers in Lamitan town, Basilan province to a helicopter after they were killed during a gunbattle with Islamic militants 11 July 2007 in nearby Tipo-Tipo town where 14 marines were killed. The troops were searching for the kidnapped Italian priest Giancarlo Bossi in Tipo-Tipo in southern Basilan island when they were ambushed by a joint force from the Philippines' main Islamic rebel group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, and the Al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf, a marine spokesman said. Ten soldiers were beheaded by the rebels while nine were injured in the eight hour clash with some 300 militants. AFP PHOTO
