PHILIPPINES-ITALY-KIDNAP-UNREST-CLASH
In this TV grab from GMA-7 exclusive news footage shows outnumbered Philippine marines preparing to fire mortar rounds to Islamic militant positions during an eight-hour gunbattle near Tipo-Tipo town in southern Basilan island 10 July 2007 where 14 marines were killed. The troops were searching for the kidnapped Italian priest Giancarlo Bossi in Tipo-Tipo when they were ambushed by a joint group of some 300 rebels from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the al-Qaeda linked Abu Sayyaf, marine spokesman said.
