CYPRUS-UN-MISSING-FUNERAL
Members of the Turkish Cypriot defence force stand to attention, 12 July 2007, over the coffins of the 'missing' draped in the flags of the self-declared Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Turkey during a funeral with military honours in Turkish held northern Nicosia, the capital of the TRNC. Turkish Cypriots, some weeping and wailing, laid to rest today 13 men killed in violence during Turkey's 1974 invasion of northern Cyprus, in the first such mass burial of people who have been missing for at least three decades. Scores attended the unprecedented ceremony in Turkish-held northern Nicosia for the men, the first identified among hundreds of people missing since the 1974 invasion and more than a decade of intercommunal strife that preceded it.
